On Thursday, December 13th, City Council voted to pass the amended version of bill #120534 sponsored by Councilman Oh in a vote of 12-4 with one member, Councilmember Keeney, abstaining from the vote.  Councilmembers voting against the bill include Blackwell, Bass, Goode and Johnson.  

On Saturday, October 6th, we had our fourth and final stop in the 2012 Philly Cup Series.  The weather was perfect, the turnout was great and everyone had a blast!  We want to once again thank all of our sponsors including Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and Vitaminwater for the awesome support in this inaugural year, and of course everyone who came out to compete and support.  We can't wait to expand on the success of this first year in 2013!  Check back in for details as summer 2013 approaches. 

On Friday, October 12th, 2012 at 11AM, Franklin's Paine Skatepark Fund broke ground on our marquee project, Paine's Park!  We were joined by speakers Deputy Mayor for Environmental and Community Resources, Michael DiBerardinis; Senator Larry Farnese; State Rep. Babette Josephs and Anthony Bracali, Principal of Friday Architects / Planners.  We were also joined by over 150 friends and supporters from the skate community and Philadelphia at-large and were overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm!  

Franklin's Paine Skatepark Fund Funder, Josh Nims, was featured on a Philly.com "One Great Idea" segment.  He talks about the great idea of bringing a large, public skate plaza to Eakin's Oval / Schuylkill Banks, and the beauty of skateboarding.

The third stop of the Philly Cup tour at McCreesh was a big success!  40 skaters competed across all four divisions (Groms, Rippers, Shredders and Open) and we gave out a bunch of prizes and give-aways.  A big special thanks to some of our key sponsors, Parks and Recreation, vitaminwater, One Skateboard Co and Nocturnal Skate shop for making this event such a big success!  We'll see you for the 4th and final stop on the Philly Cup tour on Saturday, October 6th at Whitehall Skatepark in the Northeast. 

 

The fun continued at Granahan on Saturday, July 21st with the 2nd stop on the Philly Cup tour.   The energy was great and vitaminwater kept us all hydrated on this warm but beautiful day.  Over 30 skater competed and we gave away a ton of prizes thanks to our generous sponsors: Levitate Skateboarding, One Skateboard Co, Black Box Distribution, Bones, Nocturnal, Community Board Shop, Powerfulnailya, Explotation Video, Focus Mag and Delic Skateboards.  

 

On Saturday, June 16th, the Philly Cup Skateboard Competition Series kicked off with a blast!  It was a beautiful day and over 30 people competed, scoring themselves initial points towards the final Philly Cup awards in October.  Thanks again to our many sponsors who made this event possible: Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, vitaminwater, Friends of Pop's, One Skateboard Co., Nocturnal Skateshop, Green Division, Community Board Shop, Black Diamond, Levitate Skateboarding, Formation Skatboards, Green Banana, Powerfulnailya, Explotation Video Magazine and Errand Boy.
