As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a excellent bed should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Brooklynbedding
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Brooklynbedding
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud vs Brooklynbedding
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three additional individuals to present their view too. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud vs Brooklynbedding
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
While purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Brooklynbedding
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
