From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Saatva Mattress
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud vs Saatva Mattress
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I invited three additional people to present their view as well. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than simply describing the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud vs Saatva Mattress
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Saatva Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I’m especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
