The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.

Firmness
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
At this point I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three other people to give their opinion too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
