Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our criteria for what a quality bed should have. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Expansion Time
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Construction Dreamcloud Expansion Time
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Expansion Time
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of these three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to present their view as well. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this mattress is pretty firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than just explaining the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud Expansion Time
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Expansion Time
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will provide.
I’m particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
