Construction Compare Dreamcloud And Casperwave Hybrid Mattresses
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I am stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Compare Dreamcloud And Casperwave Hybrid Mattresses
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of these three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three other people to present their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than simply explaining the feel of this mattress for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Compare Dreamcloud And Casperwave Hybrid Mattresses
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome option for couples.
Sinkage Test
When purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Compare Dreamcloud And Casperwave Hybrid Mattresses
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
