Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a quality mattress should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the proper materials in its construction. Nector Mattress And Dreamcloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Nector Mattress And Dreamcloud
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Nector Mattress And Dreamcloud
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
Now I want to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I enlisted three additional people to give their view as well. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than simply explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you will want to know what it will feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Nector Mattress And Dreamcloud
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
While buying a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Nector Mattress And Dreamcloud
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
