Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. The center of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. Firmness
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I want to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other people to give their view as well. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than simply explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. Edge Support
If you’re going to share your mattress with a partner and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
