Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a quality mattress should provide. With 8 unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Cons Of Dreamcloud Mattress
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Cons Of Dreamcloud Mattress
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Cons Of Dreamcloud Mattress
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to note that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional people to present their view as well. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than just describing the feel of the mattress for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Cons Of Dreamcloud Mattress
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
When buying a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Cons Of Dreamcloud Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
