From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.

Construction Does A Dreamcloud Mattress Have A Top And A Bottom
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Does A Dreamcloud Mattress Have A Top And A Bottom
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three additional people to present their opinion too. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Does A Dreamcloud Mattress Have A Top And A Bottom
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.
Sinkage Test
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Does A Dreamcloud Mattress Have A Top And A Bottom
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
