As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a quality mattress must provide. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the proper materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Graphics
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dream Cloud Graphics
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dream Cloud Graphics
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three other individuals to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this bed is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than simply explaining the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Dream Cloud Graphics
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.
Sinkage Test
When buying a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Graphics
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I’m especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
