Construction Dream Cloud Hosting
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Hosting
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three other people to give their view too. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dream Cloud Hosting
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
While buying a new bed, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Hosting
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
