Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a quality mattress should have. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud All
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud All
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud All
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of those small ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in moderating temperature as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to present their view too. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just explaining the feel of the mattress for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud All
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome option for couples.
Sinkage Test
When buying a new bed, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud All
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
