As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our criteria for what a quality mattress should have. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Blog
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud Blog
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Blog
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my opinion on the general firmness level of the mattress, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion as well. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. But, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you will want to know what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Blog
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Blog
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
