As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our criteria for what a quality bed should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud By Resident
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud By Resident
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud By Resident
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
Now I want to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional people to give their view too. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud By Resident
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
While buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud By Resident
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you are going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
