As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our standards for what a quality mattress must provide. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Case
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Case
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Case
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I want to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three other people to present their opinion as well. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just describing the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud Case
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
Sinkage Test
While buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Case
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
