Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our criteria for what a excellent bed should have. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Foundation Used Without Legs
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud Foundation Used Without Legs
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Foundation Used Without Legs
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of the three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I invited three additional people to present their view as well. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you will want to find out what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud Foundation Used Without Legs
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
While buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Foundation Used Without Legs
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m particularly interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
