Firmness

I started off by applying light hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three additional people to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Full Mattress
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
