Construction Dreamcloud Tucson
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Tucson
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of these three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three additional individuals to give their opinion as well. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Tucson
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
Sinkage Test
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Tucson
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
