As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our criteria for what a excellent mattress should provide. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed vs Beautyrest Black
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Winkbed vs Beautyrest Black
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed vs Beautyrest Black
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at releasing heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three additional individuals to give their opinion as well. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just explaining the feel of the mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed vs Beautyrest Black
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
Sinkage Test
While buying a new bed, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed vs Beautyrest Black
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I’m particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
