The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.

Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I’d like to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other people to present their opinion as well. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Pressure Map
Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. Sinkage Test

Edge Support

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
