Construction Is Dreamcloud And Nectar Owned By The Same Company
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Is Dreamcloud And Nectar Owned By The Same Company
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in moderating temperature as the distances between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
Firmness
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other people to give their opinion too. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this mattress is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just explaining the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to find out what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Is Dreamcloud And Nectar Owned By The Same Company
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome option for couples.
Sinkage Test
While purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Is Dreamcloud And Nectar Owned By The Same Company
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Edge Support
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
